You’ve decided that your business should be on Facebook to reach more of your target audience, now what?
A Facebook business Page is a free site where you can promote your business, services, products, and content to your audience. You can publish a wide variety of content to engage and inform your audience, from specials, to company updates and culture, to videos and even memes, depending on your brand. A Facebook business Page is a way to have a connection to your target audience, who already spend time on social media. Facebook is also the ideal place to generate leads for your business.
So how do you create and manage a Page? Luckily, it isn’t difficult and it’s free. Get started by creating your business Facebook Page, with our step by step list:
- Login to Facebook with your personal account.
Unfortunately, if you do not already have a personal Facebook account, you will need to make one in order to create a Page. When you create a Page, however, no one can see that you’re the admin or that your personal account is associated with the it unless they are also an admin on the account.
- On the Facebook Newsfeed, you’ll find a “Pages” tab on the left sidebar.
After clicking this, you’ll be brought to a list of your liked Pages, and you’ll be able to click on the “Create Page” link in the top right corner.
- Choose your Page category.
If your Page is for your business, rather than your community, or a public figure, choose the Business or Brand category.
- Name your Page and enter your business information.
Your Page name will likely be your business’ name, or another name that people may use to find your business when searching on Facebook. You can also choose a category that describes your Page, so users know what your business’ industry is, and include your business’ address and phone number.
- Brand your Page.
Your Facebook Page could be the first impression a potential customer has of your business. Ensure it is branded properly with high resolution images and copy that convey your brand.
- Profile Photo - We suggest using your company’s logo for your profile photo, ensuring it is appealing and of high resolution. Also be sure the image is properly sized at 170x170 pixels, centered, and not cut off by the profile image frame.
- Cover Photo - Your cover photo should be an image that represents your business, whether it is an image of your location, your products, or a graphic from a current marketing campaign. It should be sized 820 pixels wide by 312 pixels tall on computers and 640 pixels wide by 360 pixels tall on mobile devices.
- About Section - This section should be a brief description about your business, products or services offered and anything else potential buyers should know.
This includes business hours, an easy username for people to find when they search on Facebook, and your business’ website URL.
This button sits at the top of your Facebook Page, near your cover photo. It serves as a call-to-action to direct your customers to do something like call your business, visit your website, or book services.
Congratulations! You’ve officially set up your business' Facebook Page! Now it’s time to start getting traffic.
You’ll want to start posting quality content as soon as possible, even if you don’t have any followers yet. This ensures that once you start promoting your Page, whether that be through paid promotions, inviting users to “like” it, or just telling employees or friends by word of mouth, your Page will look active, professional, and relatively established. This will give your new followers a great impression of your business, and give them an idea of what kinds of content to look forward to in the future.
Ensure that messaging is turned on. Messaging is a great way to connect and engage with customers, whether they reach out to ask a question or feedback, or if you’re contacting them because they won a giveaway. Always respond to messages in a timely manner. Not only is this a social media marketing best practice, it also helps turn on the "Very responsive to messages" badge that shows people which Pages respond quickly and consistently to private messages.
Monitor your Page insights. That “Insights” tab at the top of your Facebook Page, and the subsequent left side tabs that appear when you click on it, will prove to be very useful once you begin getting some traffic. This is where you can see how your audience engages with your Page and posted content. You can see how many people each post reaches, demographics on your audience, and even ideal days and times to post, depending on your audience’s habits. Using this information can help you tailor your posts and actions, grow your audience, and increase engagement.
